Just a reminder: if you receive a strange text message from an unknown sender, you don’t have to reply. A traffic ticket scam text is back, and scammers are ready to take your payment and personal information. Recently, people have been receiving text messages from scammers pretending to be the “Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).”

The text message will likely tell you to click a link to “pay now.” The link or message might look legitimate because it includes a website ending in “.gov,” but don’t be fooled.

As a reminder, the warning signs of a fake text message can often be easy to spot.

We recommend that you don’t:

- Click on links or download files from unexpected text messages.
- Respond to unknown numbers. Instead, block and report unknown numbers, then delete the messages. If you suspect the text message is a scam, you can report the scam and the number.
- Give out personal information to anyone you don’t know, especially details like your birth date, Social Security number, or other sensitive information.
